Carrier Oils
Aloe Vera Aloe Vera penetrates the skin deeply, providing valuable nutrients and promoting cell repair. It is a natural anaesthetic, cleanser and anti-inflammatory and can therefore be used to reduce swelling and provide instant antiseptic pain relief to small wounds. Avocado Avocado oil is a thick , heavy oil which is best blended with lighter oils for use as a body massage. It works well as facial oil as it nourishes and moisturises dry and mature skin. It has been found to work well on eczema and dehydrated skin and is suitable for all skin types. Calendula Calendula is an antiseptic, regenerating, anti-inflammatory and anti-spasmodic. It can be used for healing wounds and burns and also eases acne, impetigo and eczema. It can help to alleviate rashes, dry skin, chapped skin and cracked skin. Grapeseed Grapeseed is a very light, non greasy oil which is perfect for skin which does not absorb other oils. It is odourless and is therefore a good general carrier oil. It is suitable for all skin types as it is slightly astringent, tightening and a good toner. Jojoba Jojoba is a liquid wax rather than an oil and is used as an addition to other oils. It penetrates the skin rapidly and is therefore unsuitable for massage but great for nourishing the skin. Jojoba can also be used for healing inflamed areas, eczema and psoriasis. Rosehip Rosehip is high in unsaturated fat and makes an excellent moisturiser and rejuvenator for the skin. It contains healing compounds hence making it valuable in treating scars, minor wounds, burns and eczema. Rosehip is great for reducing wrinkles. Sweet Almond Sweet Almond is a good all rounder and probably the better know and more widely used of all the carrier oils. It works well on all skin types and can reduce itching, soreness and dryness. It is extremely lubricating yet does not penetrate which makes it great for massaging. Sweet Almond oil will last for about 3 months once opened. This oil is not suitable for those who suffer from nut allergies. Wheatgerm Wheatgerm, like Jojoba is used as 10% addition to other oils. It eases eczema, psoriasis and prematurely aged skin. It can be used to slow down the deterioration of mixed blends of other oils. Wheatgerm oil is not suitable for those with nut allergies or gluten allergies.
